In 1997, SAPA became affiliated with the National Student Assistance Association (NSAA). SAPA of Georgia is recognized for its high quality training available at workshops throughout the year and at its Annual Training MissionOur mission is to provide prevention and intervention training, support and technical assistance to school, community, and agency leaders who will then assist children and their families in making drug-free and healthy choices for personal success Goals
What Are SAPs?Student Assistance Programs (SAPs) are collaborative and comprehensive joint school, community, family and youth partnerships. SAPs help students currently experiencing problems or those at risk for problems to succeed in school and complete their education. These programs are proactive as well as reactive in design. Once an SAP has defined "students at risk", barriers to effective learning are identified. A referral system is then established with intervention methodologies set in place. Student Assistance Programs include: prevention activities, intervention activities, educational support groups, core teams, policy and procedure statements, peer assistance, crisis management teams, training and awareness, employee assistance programming, curriculum, community mobilization and evaluation. This tracking system provides a continuum of care for kindergarten through twelfth grade students that are identified as "at risk". SAPs work well with the SST philosophy. MembershipIndividual yearly memberships are available to people interested in the area of student assistance such as Student Assistance Program professionals who provide services in districts, communities or school settings as well as state agencies involved in student assistance program development and funding. You may join at the annual training as well as by submitting a registration form. Membership is $30 and is open to all interested individuals worldwide.
