Core Team Training

If you are looking for a way to reduce barriers to learning for your students, and improve AYP and school climate, establish a Student Assistance Professionals (SAP) Core Team. This is an effective, low-cost way to really make a difference and has allowed schools throughout the U.S. to help students be more academically successful.

SAPs are modeled after employee assistance programs and address all issues that might keep a student from being academically successful.  SAPs include prevention, intervention, and postvention activities and are proactive, as well as reactive.  Training involves a team of professionals such as teachers, counselors, administrators, school nurses, school psychologists and social workers.

Goals of the Training

  • promote safe schools

  • teach respect

  • promote bonding

  • emphasize confidentiality

  • offer support for students, staff and their families

  • focus on natural highs

  • hear what children are not saying

  • prevent and intervene

  • open the door for students and staff to get help for ATOD, abuse, suicide, and violence

  • involve communities

  • focus on teaching children, not subject matter

  • synergize your efforts in working with students with self-destructive behaviors

  • teach critical thinking

  • promote resiliency

  • offer hope
